I received only ZAR25.00, new bar of soap, full toothpaste. And off I was a month after my 18th birthday. Fortunately I had been working during school holidays to buy some nice clothes, even my first new wristwatch. I joined an institution where I had full accommodation and a monthly stipend while studying and training. I believe parents should support their children, help them to grow into independence with whatever the children need, as long as the parent could afford that. I did it for my daughter until she was totally independent in a financial way - I knew she was when she, after asking for another loan, said she'll pay me back at the end of that month. :D It was not easy, being a single parent, but I persevered.
