Why should we pay for a tv licence?
Closed

Have just read that the bbc are considering cutting back on programmes to save money!! Meaning they are looking at having nothing showing from 10.35pm until 6am. Are they going to cut the tv licence as well, i think not.

i would like to see the tv licence scraped and ads shown during shows or product placement that way they can earn there money like the rest of the channels and don't means i am paying for some thing that i only watch a few shows on.

Not to worry at least there is still Sky. Keeping the licence does mean that minority programmes can still be made and be subject to market forces yet. However, the government can still intervene and censor programmes as they have always done. Come the Revolution and It could be free.

"We are the only country in the world that has to pay a tv licence!"
Well that's guesswork as you couldn't be more wrong. Many countries have licences and advertising on all channels.

I don't watch a lot of programmes on the BBC, apart from Waking the Dead, New Tricks and wildlife/nature programmes. They are already axing Waking the Dead and that has regulars viewers of 9 million+. Yes, we know what the licence money is supposed to go towards (Eilish Blackford) below, but surely that is all the more reason for them to have adverts/sponsorships like other channels do. That way, we would maybe see a lot more really good programmes on the BBC.

I agree if the Beeb are going to cut back to save money then the license fee should be cut accordingly.

We pay for a television licence so that the funds generated can be used to pay for the production of television programmes that we watch. It supplies the means for research of documentaries, the historical accurateness of historical dramas, the means of researching news articles so that the background for news stories can be provided and so we can promote the industry and provide emplyment to actors and actresses alike. Stations that have advertising have financial support from the companies goods or services they advertise. The BBC does not have this facility which is why your programmes are uninterupted.
