how can i stop blackbirds digging up my garden?

hi all,
i am having real problems with a blackbird, it keeps digging up my garden and throwing soil all over the path and patio.
being disabled it is difficult for me to keep sweeping up after them.
we had a slight problem last year and found a nest on the back fence in amongst the ivy.
there is no longer a nest around, but they keep coming back.
the little so and so's are not helping my ocd for a clean and tidy garden lol.

I had this problem last year. I got an old cd and tied it to a stick. They dont like it swinging around and the sun makes it glint. The alternative is to shoot it.....

I find that if we put dried fruit out the blackbirds tend not to dig around the garden so much as if there was none around. We feed the birds all year round because even in the summer they can struggle.

Obviously the bird is looking for food, so if you give it some it will stop digging up the garden. I have loads of birds that come to my garden bird table, they all eat, and none of them dig up anything. I'd just put bread out, see if that works, and enjoy having a little friend. I like the birds, it's the neighbour's cats in the garden I'd like to get rid of.
