Cricket

I had to go to the flower wholesaler yesterday . To get there i have to travel past Edgebason Cricket ground.
What a nightmare, you cant get through the trafic there are people everywhere, they walk across the roads without looking because they are focused on get to the ground. There are cars pullibg out from side roads without the drivers looking or taking care they are focused on finding sonewhere to park but there isnt anywhere. There are cones along the roads to stop people parking . Its an absolute nightmare. So a journey that normally would take 20 minutes take well over an hour.
The council need to do something to ease the burden but what its not a very wide road so it cant be widened. They have buikt a mumti story car park but its not finished yet, even with that olen tge trafic will i tbink still be heavy.
I really dont like cricket let alone have it affect my day so much, but so many folk do thats obvious by tbe volume of traffic and bodies. So what i need ti do is make sure j know when its on and avoid the area as much as i can , sometimes though there isnt a choice if i need flowers. Is there something that happens that affect your life like this?

Widening roads makes no difference. It just encourages even more traffic! Reply

You should have been watching the cricket instead of shopping Rose! :-) xx Reply

When cricket grounds like Edgbaston and Old Trafford (1882 and 1857 respectively) were established before the car was invented (1885 seems to be accepted as the date of the first car). As such having car parks was not considered. In the intervening years increased car ownership and traffic mean it can now be a problem around sports stadiums but often there is not the space to build one or the demand outside match days. When my husband and I go to watch the cricket we use public transport as so convenient (even though there may be a wait to get on a tram). Reply

I actually live close to the Edgbaston Ground and have lived here over 12 years and it gets worse every year. The council dont care we have been to meetings to discuss the traffic and parking to no avail. Reply

We get something similar when QPR are playing Rose but not too badas we're down the road a way. The area is certainly very busy on match days though! Reply

"Have to",is there no other way of approaching from a more circuitous route than going via the Test Match ground during a test match? Reply

They only play 1 or 2 tests maximum at Edgbaston each year Rosemary. Why is it the councils responsibility ? Reply

No I can’t say there is, but with living in the countryside the only thing you might get a flock of sheep on the road or a her of cows if a farmer is moving them from one field to another. Reply
