Petshop & shelter

I saw this on Facebook as a funny post but actually it made me thing.. cat/dog shelters should try and place themselves next to pet shops because it attracts people who love animals from the shop next door en when they see the shelter they may change their minds about getting a puppy. I don't think pet shops in the UK are allowed to sell kittens and puppies but I know they do in the US. I once went to LA and walked past a pet shop and I was actually very surprised to see puppies in the shop window like, you just go buy one.. So I think shelters should place themselves next -or as near as possible- pet shops. Also good business for the pet shop since people would adopt a pet and go buy all supplies next door. Good idea?

I volunteer for The Greyhound Trust, we rehabilitate and rehome our fast and furry friends when they have finished racing or if they have no aptitude for the track, have never raced at all. If you have a hound sized hole in your life, greyhounds become superb companions. Reply

I don’t think they could afford the rent and business rates… Reply

The rents payable to obtain such a position close to retail pet shops would be far too high for a pet sanctuary to afford unfortunately . I agree with your idea but it's not practical financially. Reply

A great idea Hilde, as long as the dogs don't tunnel through the wall and scoff all the food! :-) xx Reply

I remember years ago ,pet shops sold pets ,in fact we had a pet stall on doncaster market that sold dogs /cats/rabbits/etc and all the stuff you needed for the pets ,I think it was much better than buying a pet online like they do now ,at least you could see what you were getting Reply
