Peanut Butter

I have always loved peanut butter but the brands differ enormously. WholeEarth can vary jar to jar depending on its sell by date. I opened one this week to end in 2023 and it was all ready stale although a fresh jar is usually very tasty.
I recently bought a 1kg tub of Pip and Nut smooth and it took more stirring than emulsion paint to lose all the oil on the top. It is very easy to eat and wholesome taste but it goes very hot in your mouth..does anyone know why it does that?
Own brands are OK but can contain a lot of salt and sugar whilst the brands above claim less sugars and palm oil. The prices of nut butters have risen along with many others but i still think it is good value protein and i read that it has something in it which helps you to sleep!
Do you like peanut butter?

Pip n Nut is my favourite. I don’t mind the stirring as I like the flavour. Meridian is a nice brand as well. Reply

The British take on peanut butter baffles me. Why on earth do they insist on adding palm oil to one of the oiliest things in creation? The only decent stuff I've found came from a health food store, and it cost so much I decided that I'd just not bother. The only thing needed to make decent peanut butter is peanuts and a touch of salt, keep the sugar and palm oil out of it! Reply

Apart from having to stir it for what seems like an hour the content is almost 100% hi-oleic peanuts and a bit of sea salt, the best type of fats. I just love the deep roast flavour. Perhaps its the sea salt that makes your mouth hot. Reply

I love smooth peanut butter on toast, I find there isn't much difference between the brands for taste, but, you having to stir the oil in was a good thing as it means there was less additives. Reply

I live peanut butter and will only buy versions that are 100% nuts so no sugar, salt, palm oil added. Aldi own brand is cheap and really good. Reply

I love peanut butter.
I always used to prefer SunPat, but that seems to have gone dry. I used to like the oil layer you complain about. Stir that in and it’s really tasty.
I tried whole earth and some supermarket brands but they all seemed dry although I have found Tesco preferable to co-op.
We also buy jars of Doggy peanut butter - and she loves it as a treat. There’s not much difference, but it has to be free of xylitol which is poisonous to dogs.
