I was 18 wandering in the large woodland preservation park, near the town. Massive thing of old growth trees some bigger then your standard yard shed at the base. A dogs whimpers drew me but not soon enough, at least one week or more by what I saw that day. Chained by a harness too a tree was what would have been a gorgeous black lab and tri-collie mixture. Starving and too weak too stand she was draped over a root bundle. I got tail thumps for being seen and licks when I reached her, whines at all times. She was left to die and nothing I could do would save her. So remembering what my father told me about a painless death I had no gun, I had no poison. I had a knife though. Final rubs and gentling ger on my leg. Knife to the skull behind the ears and one hard motion the cords cut she died. Only reason I could even do that method was due too the extreme desiccated state she was in starved long before being chained too die.

I hated myself for doing it but it was right, first time I ever killed something with my hands. I came back after dark and cut the chains that tore her flesh. Dug a grave for her, had too do it alone I broke again there and people were the last thing I wanted too deal with. The tree is gone, the rocks lost but I know her bed like I know my own. I threw the chain into the River with some attached weight and hurled it with everything I had, it would bind nothing ever again.
