Do you ever wonder how safe your local shopping precinct is?
Closed

This picture isn't of my local shopping area, but it will suffice. I went to Trowbridge today and found myself at the Shires shopping area. I've been there a lot since 1995, when I first moved to Britain. This time was a bit unnerving for me because most of the doors leading out of the building were locked 'due to Covid restrictions.' I'm sorry, but in the event of a fire or a crazy person with a knife or gun, how the heck are people supposed to get out if most of the doors are locked? I don't understand how locking the doors keeps a virus out, but I do know that locking them can keep us in, and I wasn't comfortable about it. In the event of an 'event', where are people supposed to go? Are they locking the doors everywhere? I am interested to know.

No it certainly isn't done in any I've visited recently.

No doors locked in the shopping centre closest to where I live.
I think I would have had to complain if there had been a closed entry/exit. I can understand if they had door staff limiting entry but not completely locked ones, I agree with you that it makes no sense.

Our shopping precinct must be a very safe place as it's been virtually empty for a few years now and has lost even more shops recently.

Are they simply additional entrances that are closed in order to monitor the numbers of people coming in? This would (should) not affect the use of emergency (fire ) exits. If these are blocked I think it would be a breach of fire regulations.
I agree with others though, having doors open and fresh air coming through would seem to be the sensible option.

I’ve not come across this - just infernal one way systems…
