It’s exactly the same recipe - and wrapper/packaging design - as when they were first made in the 1950s. They were ‘invented’ post WW2 in response to food rationing to have a longer shelf life than fresh cakes and biscuits. Tunnock’s now make a plain chocolate variety too (navy wrapper) - but they’re not nearly as nice in my opinion. Tunnock’s Teacakes are so famous and popular in Scotland, you can buy other products with the iconic red design on them such as mugs, tins, tea towels etc. Someone even gave me a Tunnocks Teacake Christmas tree decoration this year! It looks exactly like a real one - but in 2D format with a hanging ribbon. The thought of jam inside them is inconceivable!
