Inflation is 4.2% , so a 4% pay rise means a pay cut , agreed ?
Closed

Consequently , Tesco distribution staff are threatening industrial action at 14 of its 22 distribution centres , including warehouse staff and HGV drivers , on the 16th , 22nd and 30th of December . Tesco says its 4% offer is one of its highest ever in 25 years .
Let's hope it's just Tesco eh ? What do you think folks ?

Any rise has to be affordable and inflation is transitory…

Yes CPI at 4.2% and the more relevant RPI running at over 6% and both rising swiftly month on month Steve. Working class people will probably need a pay rise of around 7%+ just to keep pace with the cost of living in the next twelve months . Tesco saying 4% is the highest pay offer in 25 years is meaningless when inflation is set to be higher than at any point in the last 36 years.

I wish my wife and son were getting a 4% pay increase, or that I could get another job (I live in the countryside without transport so am more than a little restricted).

They are probably just right Steve to be honest , a friends daughter was a night manager and under terrible stress the place helped her get her house bought , but the stress for the conditions and rules decided her to change to M+S and just a mere till person she took , daily home at a set time at night and the pay was just as good as management posts in Tescos + the staff are treated so good atmosphere
wise, with no targets or pressure ! ... go for it Tesco staff home you get what you want i say !

It sounds like a fair offer based on historic info but fuel, gas and electricity are the main culprits and at least one will affect everybody. As a private non-unionised business, I wonder what if our place will give a pay rise at all this year.

4.25 5 is high but will it stay that high and how long for, If it stays there for 10 + months then they might be right to go on strike but ! the rate will come down and then they will be better off
