You think you've got it bad ? How about this ?

The Tan Hill Inn, in the Yorkshire Dales is Britain's highest pub , famed for getting cut off in heavy snowfall . Dozens of customers have spent a SECOND night trapped by heavy snowfall brought by Storm Arwen , being forced to socialise , watch TV or play board games !
Joking apart , things could have been a lot worse , couldn't they ? Could you manage this ?

I have never been there, but my National Trust volunteering not a million miles away was cut short today by the snow : there was still a good covering by late morning (and the rocks do look spectacular in the snow), but then it started to come down heavily again ; by mid-day another inch had fallen and most of the modest number of visitors who had braved the elements were leaving, so most of the staff went home. This is as close to my, and Sartre's, idea of HELL as it's possible to imagine....! All that forced jollity, other people's drunkenness, bodily gases and odours....and board games?! Who's the landlord, Matthew Hopkins?! ...Robespierre?!... A Grand Inquisitor, at least, I assume?!!!! Reply

Sounds like a plot for a murder mystery- trapped in a remote pub with lots of strangers. The dog has got an honest face at least. Reply

Reminds me of the olde days when the landlord thought you engaging enough to be invited to a lock in after hours. I'd love to be sat amongst that lot it would be great people watching, stir crazies and entertainers is all you need. Reply

That reminds me of one of the Brixton riots. We were in The Prince Of Wales in the middle of it.The police told the guvernor to lock us in. We got out about 4.30 AM Reply
