Prices are outrageous.

I just bought a small bottle of McCormick's vanilla flavoring at Kroger. It was $7.99 and that was on sale. The regular price is $10.49. I used to pay less than $3. I know a lot of companies are struggling these days but so are consumers. I think there should be a law against increasing the prices this much. I am retired but for those still working I'm sure if they got a pay raise it was not enough to keep up with these prices. I don't know how young people can even afford to feed their families. It's just wrong.

Some online sites like Penzey's Spices or at outlet stores for Williams & Sonoma they might have it for less. Usually, when I am traveling and see it at a discount I will buy it whether I need it or not at the time. Reply

You might want to look into making your own. Once you have a batch, you can keep it running for ages without much cost. Reply

I usually get my vanilla from King Arthur's online, or Penzey's Spices. Reply

I noticed last year that the price of vanilla had gone way up. I was doing more baking during the early part of the pandemic. A bottle of vanilla extract usually lasts me a long time, but with extra baking, I ran out. I was shocked at how much vanilla was. I ended up buying it at Trader Joe's, then I saw some discounted vanilla at Stater Bros...a brand they had discontinued. So now I'm stocked up. I think all prices are rising this year, but there's something in particular about vanilla that started prior to the latest price increases. Reply

I was watching the news last night, on a story about prices of Christmas trees. A man went to 5 tree lots looking for a 12 foot tree. Finally found one and snapped it right up. The price was--brace yourself--$750! Reply

I would shop around. That same McCormick vanilla extract at Publix is $4.97 right now. Walmart is $5.84 and the Walmart brand is $3.66. Lidl's has the best price on spices and extracts if you don't mind their name brand for under a dollar. If you'll check out the blog SouthernSavers.com and find the stores near you, you can match weekly sales and coupons for each store. Reply

Wow! That is way too expensive. I believe that there should be a cap on price increases. Incidentally, I purchased my last bottle of vanilla from Trader Joe's--not that expensive. Reply
