Coles or Woolies team members

If there are any Coles or Woolies employees on here, how long did it take and how many times have you applied before you got the job?

What did you do different to the last time?

I would love to get a job at either Coles or Woolies. I've applied for 13 jobs between the both stores (10 with Woolies & 3 with Coles). Knocked back for all 13 of them.

I was offered a video interview for both, but they chose others over me. I don't think I was confident, as I really didn't know what to expect.

A bit of advice would be great, as I'm going to keep applying for next year. Many thanks.

It depends where you live, the hospitality industry a screaming out for workers, it's on the news most nights.

I think sometimes a person can do all they can and have great skills but even then they can still go with and hire someone else, I know myself that I have found video interviews much harder than meeting in person. All the best, keep at it and wishing you lots of luck.

there are only a few jobs where being old really counts, Psychology and Psychiatry, because the people who use those services look for people with experience and if you are dispensing advise then age is experience rather than freshly minted 20 year olds from Uni who have just read books on theories

When I was younger I went into the places I wanted to work and asked to see the head of personel, I handed in my filled application and kept going back each morning as soon as their office opened and kept asking "Do you need a good worker?" within a week or so I always got the job, while pestering works in some fields, for other jobs I simply said to the head honcho "I'm willing to work for a week for free, if you like my work then you hire me" this strategy works two fold, if they like you then you will get the job, if you find that you don't like it then you move on, it also works if you want to enter a new field, you say that you have no experience but are willing to work the first week free to get some experience. Yep and aussiemoney is right in some things, they did stack shelves to suit the age and height, that is why they put chocolates and lollies at the height of kids who grab and pester Muuummmmm

Plenty of Cleaner JOBs, (No one wants to clean the Dunny), They have a mile of people who want to be Managers.

my trick? I worked rural then applied and transferred to city. They like transfer where they can but some stores hard to staff - try them. Also their partner servos, apply at them like coles express.
Ive done up to cert 3 retail but truth be told, i dont think it played any part. Once your in your in, getting in is bloody hard

A Food and Beverage Course at TAFE
Commercial Cooking Certs.
(Gain your Cert 2&3) Food Handling Skills would be a good starter to get you foot in the door of Coles/ Woolworths for employment.
Small Business management Course and Cert also worth doing.
Wine appreciation Course /Cert.
OH&S Cert, First Aider.
EDUCATION with Certs, will get the JOB.
