Do you prefer some roles to be played by a male or a female actor? I dont usually mind but Dr Who being played by a female didn't work for me and even though I'm old I did enjoy Dr Who, probably because my children watched it.

I enjoyed Jodie as The Doctor but that might have been partly because I was getting bored with Peter Capaldi & welcomed a change. There have been quite a few actresses that have played male roles in Shakespeare to great acclaim.

Some roles simply have to be played by men (such as James Bond or Sherlock Holmes) but female equivalents could work just as well. Jodie Whittacker as a female Dr Who didn't really work for me either but could have been due to naff writing and very poor companions (whoever told Bradley Walsh that he could act?).

I never took to a female Dr.Who though Jodie is a great actress and I like her but not as the Doctor. I also don't want James Bond to be a woman. My brain just can't compute that.

It depends on the role Mary. I can think of quite a few men who play women and are great, Lily Savage, Les Dawson, Roy Barraclough, (Cissy and Ada) Mrs Brown, Danny La Rue, Stanley Baxter, The Two Ronnies, Dame Edna, Kenny Everet etc but very few if any women who have successfully played men.

Certainly Bond Mary , the female Dr doesn't bother me to much, but its not a show i ever liked ...guess it s not for hardened fans !

If the acting and script are good, it should only matter for historical accuracy - and that's a contentious topic of its own.
I thought Jodie did a fine job and the writers didn't succumb to sentimentality or ' female hysteria' as I had feared.
Long live The Dr.

i didnt watch jodie whittaker as doctor who mainly because id stopped watching after matt smith, i didnt rate peter capaldi at all, i do like her though so need to see how she performed, as for the role of james bond, that should remain a male actor as originally created by ian fleming x
