Airbnb

I've just done a survey on travel and it asked questions about airbnb. I've never used that company so didn't really know but I've always been under the impression that they provide cheap accommodation. Just for the fun of it I went to airbnb's website and searched for accomodation in Kochi, Kerala. I lived there for 2 years, rented a villa with 2 floors, 4 double bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 1 seperate toilet, 2 kitchens, an utilities room, a maid's room and all with marble flooring. I paid £300 a month for this. I was utterly SHOCKED to see all the properties on airbnb in Kochi were listed at UK rental prices. A 3 bedroom flat is up for £700 a month, a 4 bedroom flat goes over £1000/month. This is daylight robbery and the sad things is people don't realize it because they don't know about it. Nobody is going to check out rental prices abroad if they are looking for holiday accomodation. I was never a fan of airbnb because in Edinburgh families can't find suitable housing because half the city is on airbnb. Properties bought by people who don't live in Edinburgh, probably not even in Scotland and put on airbnb. That's the disadvantage of living in a city which is a popular tourist destination. Have you ever used airbnb? Do you think their prices are fair or 'a bargain'?

Airbnb is mostly used for short stays either holiday or business. My daughter has booked a great apartment in the centre of Prague for a week with 3 friends of hers.
It’s not somewhere I’d search for a monthly rental

We have used Airbnb, when we had a holiday in Donegal a couple of years back. But it was a Bed and Breakfast in the traditional sense, not an empty house. We loved it. Would certainly do it again. Reply

I'm afraid ethics and morals aren't important to these people . Reply

No Hilde as if ever get on a break or holiday me or friends want no cooking , cleaning or worrying about mess when leaving ( though we leave hotel room clean ) i want dinner set in front of me , guess big families or as you say tourists from far of lands want the whole deal of going to Scotland ..some want a quaint wee cottage in Ireland and a fairy leprechaun garden at their door ( Americans usually ) as they think that's what Ireland s all about ! get ya !
I alway envisaged airbnd to be tatty hostels but seems not going by things i have seen to on media , and your post , a villa sounds great but no i think we like mixing with others on our holidays , also they had a bad name of the owners watching all going on in every room through hidden camera s
And sure sounds expensive going by your post , when i also thought it was for people on a budget !

Never used or looked at them; I agree about them taking up homes that people need to actually live in, and if we are away I want a hotel, it's not a holiday if I'm still cooking etc .. Reply

I never go away or on holiday, so sorry, can't help. I agree about too many holiday homes/lets, they should be for the local people. Reply
