Police tactics over the Insulate Britain protests on M25 junctions in Kent have changed.

The police arrested 12 people at 08:30 this morning when they tried to access the M25, they are still being held on suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance. The protesters were aiming to block the Dartford Crossing, no protesters actually made it onto the road. There has also been reports of some motorists clashing with protesters. Well the police certainly spiked their guns at the Dartford Crossing, this morning, let's hope it is the end of the protests, but if not the police keep arresting them. Time for some additional magistrates courts to hand out some suitable punishments to these people.

Do you think the police were correct in arresting the protesters, and then holding them in custody ?

The picture shows Kent Police leading a protester away form a slip road near the Dartford crossing.

I think the police are doing the right thing. The right to protest needs to exist but it needs to be done in a responsible manner. Blocking potentially innocent peoples journeys just to get media attention is irresponsible, in my opinion.
I worry that the courts will not back up the police action though, due to precedents set in Extinction XR court cases. In fact, I doubt the CPS will progress them all as far as the courts.
See this for my reasoning ....

They have to be stopped as they are putting peoples lives at risk when ambulances are not getting patients to hospitals in time. Reply

It's about time Chris, the police should have made arrests at the start of the trouble. Reply

What a fickle country we are, if you agree with the cause they are heroes but if you don't they are stupid trouble makers, what a sorry state this country would be in if people didn't stand up to the authorities now and again. I seem to remember a recent topic about Putin and Russia and a few posts complaining about China and human rights. You want 'Democracy' then this is what you get, get used to it and stop moaning.:-b Reply

Much better to stop the cretins than arrest them after.
Hopefully some of them will fall out of the vans.

That was only one lot of idiots. The Herts and Surrey police don't seem to be as effective as the Kent and Essex police. Reply
