Picture not acceptable! Have you been to the top of a lighthouse? I've climbed the one at Portland Bill a few times in the past but you needed to be fit.

No, I haven’t, which is a pity as I don’t think my knees are up to the task now!

As children we used to visit Dungeness lighthouse frequently. Loved it. It seemed really exciting at the time.

Not climbed any Mary as we are a sea area there's a few in a 10 mile radius from me along the coast . and more in every
coastal town .....no thanks they are built on cliffs and large rock areas ..with the fierce Irish sea beating of the rocks ..never would i want to be near them even !

Yes I have been to the top of St Mary’s lighthouse beside Whitley Bay. On the Northumbrian coast.

I have been up a lighthouse many times, when I lived in Plymouth. It was Smeatons Tower on Plymouth Hoe. The first time was with my school, as a day trip. We do know of a converted lighthouse in Burnham on Sea in Somerset and we knew a previous owner who used to abseil down it to paint the outside. My wife has only been up the Cabot Tower in Bristol, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

I have and I still harbour distant hopes of living atop one that has been converted.

I've photographed many, including Portland Bill, but the only one I remember going up is the National Trust owned one at Souter in the North East.

Many, many years ago the family went on holiday to Cornwall during which we visited the Lizard Point and went on a tour of the lighthouse there.
