The daily mile

I saw an ad on the TV with a brand (can't remember which!) that was supporting The Daily Mile. It is an initiative that has been around for a while that encourages schools to incorporate a mile into the school day. It can be run, jogged or walked. It is not competitive but about getting children outdoors and active. Many schools found doing it before the school day starts made pupils more alert and ready for their lessons.
I think it is a great idea particularly as so many children do not walk to school anymore.
What are your thoughts? Would you have liked to do it or for your children to have done it?

I always walked to and from school, a 3 mile round trip. I didn’t mind as I did the journey with friends.
The school attended by my grandchildren have been doing the mile run/jog each morning for the last few years; all the children seem to enjoy going around the track, especially when the teachers join in.

I think it’s a good idea! Although in our school some children are already walking to school and walking back home. Reply

All the clhildren in our village school have been doing the daily mile for the last couple of years now, our federation was lucky enough to be chosen as the first two schools in the county to be given their own Daily Mile track constructed using funds awarded by the Healthy Pupils Capital Fund. It's a great initiative and if I happen to be in the school with a class going out for their daily mile I often go with them. Reply

I hated sport at school any type of PE in fact I did everything I could to get out of it. My two grandsons were the same yet both of them are very healthy and fit now. My kids were never in I was hard pressed to gethem in in for their tea the ypoungest lived for football the other 4 were always with their friends . There is no point in this as the food that is offered the kids in scholl is digusting maybe when they change to offerings to a more natural fresh food it might be worth it Reply

I've walked all my life although I'm a lot slower than I used to be.
We never had kids to train but some of the parents you see could use the exercise.
A friend of mine used to walk his daughters to school & pass a woman with a four wheel drive loading her kids into it & he always got to school before her & if he didn't talk to other parents he'd be on his way back before she got there.
Both her & offspring were overweight.

Struth at school in the 50s everyone walked to school apart from those bussed in from the New Forest.
Mine was just a mile each way,but remember we all used to charge about at playtimes and gym lessons,we were like Greyhounds, thin and hungry all the time.
