Have you noticed many supermarket stock shortages ?

It's a newish problem , and seems to be getting worse . Until recently , I'd had no difficulty with my online grocery deliveries .
However , the last 3 have had items missing , due to being out of stock
They weren't substituted , which means that alternatives were out of stock too - yet these were everyday items , such as fresh pork chops .
To be honest , I find that hard to believe . There's a 100,000 shortfall in trucker numbers , due to European drivers going home , plus of course Covid , including the pingdemic . Steve Fellowes haulage in Burton-upon-Trent hauls for a supermarket , and is so short of staff , Steve himself has had to drive . Have you seen shortages ?

Not really, apart from salad items (which always happens during a heatwave) and bottled water which has been short for a couple of months now but again the heatwave didn't help. Reply

Hi Steve. Several gaps in Sainsbury's the other day, though most of what we wanted wasn't important. Wines looked a bit impoverished though, which is most definitely as bad as your brandy shortage ! We needed to go into Iceland two or three days on the trot because they didn't have the cones we wanted on first trip. Then, when we wanted to purchase ice cream, they didn't have the flavour we wanted. No problem but we needed to buy some other little items because we wanted to pay by card. We weren't sure whether it was no lorries, or no staff to stack shelves. But we recently read that Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and LIDL said they were having definite delivery problems. They would seem to be blaming it on lack of lorry drivers and the “pingdemic” (love that word !) affecting store staff. The supermarkets are asking people not to “panic buy”. Another source says they might enlist the army to drive lorries or stack shelves. That should be good because we are sure they would organise it perfectly ! Reply

Mrs B reports no shortages in Waitrose although one shelf filler was vertically challenged and could not stack the upper shelves.
My shopping is confined to the wet butchers and nothing amiss there although the offal supplies are a bit low on Lambs Kidneys so no Devilled Kidneys for a while.
