Have you ever been stopped by the Police ? Were they fair ?

I've been stopped many times , please allow me to elaborate ;
1 Speeding, 1971 . My fault , no mitigating circumstances .
2 Speeding, 1980 . Ditto
3 Speeding, 1987 . Ditto .
4 1989 . No charges , police thought I was a known gangster lol !
5 1996 .Faulty rear lights . I was unaware , police said get them fixed .
6 C 2010 . No seatbelt . My fault , no mitigating circumstances .
As you can see , I'm a hardened criminal ! This , of course , is over a period of 40 years , during which time I covered over 2 million miles .

On the other hand , my car was attacked and damaged twice in 2011 ,
and the police response was unimpressive . ( Diane's hubby I'm sure !)
Both occasions were just phone calls . No officer came , despite the fact that there were fingerprints on my car door on the 2nd attack.
The first time , I was given a case number for my insurance claim.
Second time , they asked if I'd like the press involved . I replied " No , I'd like the police involved ! " I guess it was a form of triage , but I wasn't too happy . Now , what experiences have you had ?

I used to get stopped a lot walking and searched for no reason, have been stopped twice for speeding, the first I was let off even though it was my fault, the 2nd I was doing 1 mph over which I thought was a bit unfair but I decided as I got let off the first I’ll just take the points so it kind of equals itself out Reply

I have been stopped as a pedestrian at least 10 times, mostly connected to how late at night it was (due to shift work, call outs and late night drinking). Most occasions it was just a conversation to satisfy their curiosity but I got searched a couple of times, which was a pain but done relatively politely. Reply

Yes Steve, just once in the early 80's. My brother was driving his car with me as the passenger. We were in the West End looking for a parking space. My brother was tasked with dropping off two reels of film to an independent production company on behalf of the BBC. We were pulled over by 2 eagle-eyed officers. One took me to one side and the other talked to my brother. It took about 20 to 25 minutes before the officers were informed by their control that my brother was indeed the legal owner of the car. In short the car had been stolen a few days before this happened. My brother had recovered his car from a police compound on the day before this incident occurred. Both of us were amused at the thought that my brother had been suspected of stealing his own car. Reply

Mornin’ All. Barrow in Furness, 40 in a 30, 3pts, wife paid fine. Layby very close to somewhere I used to live, immediately before Christmas, breathalysed early in the morning (routine check of lots of vehicles) – all OK. On another occasion, towing a 16 foot trailer – they checked that my safety cable was attached correctly – it was. On the other side of the coin – Mini broken into and radio stolen. Estate car stolen and left in a field miles away with contents from back of car neatly stacked in corner of field but car left there with no (very expensive) wheels - on this occasion we had the whole of the Police force of the town we lived in (all three of them !) in our lounge on a Saturday morning. Another company car broken into and briefcase stolen. Not bad for also about 2 million miles. Plus our sister’s car was once stolen and used in a bank robbery ! Reply

Do you think for things like criminal damage, there should be a different unit to take care of such cases? Reply
