Christmas shopping may get incredibly hard...

Hello Influencers!

Hope you are all resting up well over the weekend and ready for the start of the week tomorrow!

Christmas shopping normally ramps up around this time of year as we quickly approach Christmas, but with the threat of national lockdowns closing non essential retail, could it be the hardest year to get the perfect gifts?

In Wales and Scotland, there are talks of national lockdowns starting from next week - with the Welsh first minister suggesting that all shops will have to close and that people will have to stay at home like they did in March. England do seem to be taking a less serious approach but may follow England before the end of the next week when the half term measures are expected to come in.

Closing shops down just 9 months before Christmas could be catastrophic for small independent business that thrive during the festive period, and it’s going to be difficult for them to survive when they are just starting to recover from the first National Lockdown that lasted nearly 4 months.

What do you think about the prospect of a pre-Christmas lockdown and a delay of Christmas shopping? Will you turn to online retailers rather than waiting for shopping restrictions to end?

I think a circuit breaker is necessary and I would shop online at Amazon and food delivery supermarkets such as Tesco, Morrison’s and Asda Reply

I've been doing the vast majority of my shopping online for awhile now anyway.. Covid has only reinforced that. I think there'll be heaps of bargains around in the run-up to Christmas and even better January Sales too ... as retailers battle over the reduced spend available. Good news for consumers of all budgets; not such good news for the retailers, who are, after all, employers too... :( Reply

I think Christmas shopping is the least of our worries. Come January 1st prices in the UK are set to rise by around 18% so may I say a big "well done" to all the Leave voters out there and I think that come January they will be a lot less vocal than they have been all year. Reply

I have now finished my Xmas shopping for presents,, I also have 2 large boxes with tin food and Xmas sweets/biscuits so I only have to get frozen and fresh food for Xmas nearer the time,, I always start present shopping early each year Reply

I don’t buy a lot of presents now, so it won’t make a lot of difference to me as the ones I do buy for get money or vouchers Reply

I will likely either buy early, or purchase online - but will buy less presents as I will not be seeing as many members of my family and friends (if any!) Reply

Luckily I've only 1 present to buy ~ I don't usually do my Christmas shopping until the week before ~ plenty of time yet ~ don't panic ! Reply
