who deserves a statue in your area ?
Closed

what with certain memorials being removed across the country, do you think some statues do need updating with more recent achievers and contributers to society ?

the only person i could think of more recently for around here would be stephen fry, while he was born in london, he did attend college and settle here

which well known people from your area would you like to commemorate on a plinth ?

Bowater Helen, the man who kicked off the paper industry in Sittingbourne. We do have two splendid buildings, and a village that he built as well.

Paul O'Grady, he's a bit of a laugh and lives in Kent, the county where I live.

They seem very expensive to make, so I am not overly keen on encouraging new ones.
However, is the spirit of joining in I would like to propose a statue of Ronnie Corbett. He lived, and sadly died, locally, although he was Scottish and had a home (and bees) in Scotland too. TV star and much beloved comedian. :-)

Jimmy Savile LOL. A rather sick suggestion I know Helen . This is the danger of erecting statues I believe.
Twenty years ago if someone had said let's honour Jimmy Savile by erecting a statue many would have supported the idea due to his charitable work ( he raised millions for charity ) and media presence for shows such as top of the pops and Jim'll fix it.
So I believe no statues should be erected to anyone and then no future discord can arise from such action . Many ordinary people lead extraordinary lives and do massive amounts of good but are never recognised due to their perceived low profile.

We have a statue of Stanley Matthews (footballer) In town Helen, however if he ever scored past a black goalkeeper I'm expecting it to be removed soon. :-) xx

I agree with Mark, and sorry but I would not support any more adulation for the pompous and arrogant Stephen Fry, he already loves himself enough.
