care in the community

something that has always been a little bit touch and go but with most of us aware of certain mental health conditions these days, alot of people who are diagnosed with such malaise are easier to deal with and more importantly help

unfortunately some should still have carers with them as they can be quite traumatising and cause anxiety to people around them

we had a customer yesterday that was shouting and swearing and while myself and another customer tried to assist she only ended up more agitated, i had to call a manager and security kept an eye on her till she left

i felt like crying at the time, she did upset a child and must have been asked to leave which is a shame but she really should have had somebody with her to help calm her down, whats your opinion ?

I agree Helen, she should have had someone with her to explain her situation to others and help to calm her down. xx Reply

Sounds to me like she most probably should have not been out on her own. Also sounds like she herself was very distressed Reply

She most certainly should have someone with her, but sometimes even if there are people to do it, the person with the problem often refuses the help. I do think there should be more funding put into mental health Helen but sadly it's often left behind. However, the safety of the people around must come first in my opinion, and it must be very difficult for staff and managers in businesses to deal with these situations :) x Reply

And had someone in the community shop who was right on the edge of this, I emailed the shop manager saying I was trying to tolerate it as I wanted to help him. She told him the shop was closing and he needed to leave! He went into the shop next door and ‘kicked’ off in there! Sometimes you just have to take the protection of everyone else angle because they need to be referred for mental health assistance! Reply

Yes she should not have been out alone in that state! No one was able to help her so the only alternative was to ask her to leave for the safety and wellness of everyone else! Reply

Bring back the secure homes where people were cared for but not let out. Reply

If she was shouting and swearing, she should have been escorted from the premises... Reply
