Ethnicity

I was just doing a survey and got all the usual questions in the beginning and the one about your ethnicity got me thinking. The options were White, Asian, Black and a whole bunch of specific regions like Caribbean etc so it made me think.. how come there's black and white and then Asian? Why don't Asian people have a color? When I was a kid, Chinese people were 'yellow'. I'm not trying to be a racist but I was thinking, if they don't say 'yellow' anymore but Asian, and if you can't say 'black' anymore but person of colour (or whatever you're supposed to call it now) then should there also be a different name for 'white'? Should they leave out 'white' and 'black' and just put the continents instead? Like African, Asian, European, American.. but then you won't get to know if an American is black or white or something else. And 'Asian' can be many things. An Indian person doesn't have the same ethnicity as someone from China or Vietnam. Someone from Mongolia has a whole different kind of ethnicity than someone from Bangladesh. Just saying. If you can't say yellow or black, you shouldn't be saying white either. Can say 'caucasian' but still.. I am puzzled.. I know they want to know for research purposes but still.. why they even need it. Any thoughts?

I will never / have never state(d) ethnicity. Where it is demanded I close the survey. To me, such a thing is meaningless. I can thank state schools for that enlightenment from a very early age ( 5 y.o. ). Reply

I’m surprised the question is allowed at all these days... LOL! Protesters will be toppling the logos of market research companies next! At the end of the day, we are what we are and above all, we are all humans... Reply
