I just heard a cuckoo!

For the first time this this year! What makes is special is that I am in my house, and heard it through the open window! I wasn't expecting this! Just a few days ago I was talking to my neighbours and they said they heard a cuckoo in the bog when they went to work on the turf. When I was living in place, I was taking my dog for a walk to the bog, and I was hearing a cuckoo (and sometimes seeing it, too) there. Now, I did not have to go anywhere - the cuckoo came to me!

In Lithuania, we have many superstitions about cuckoos. One of them says that the number of cuckoo calls predicts how many years for you are left to live :). The most popular belief is that if you do not have money with you when you hear a cuckoo for the first time, you will suffer all year round, and vice versa, if you have, then a rich life awaits you :).

When was the last time you heard a cuckoo?

Well done! Normally we hear more pigeons than cuckoos. If you are not in a rural area this is probably a migrant bird who is on its way to nest in the countryside. Reply
