How aware of you about lemon balm, a very easy to grow perennial herb? It has many health benefits plus it’s a pretty addition to your garden either sown in the ground or grown in a pot.

Last year, I bought a lemon balm plant to grow in a decorative pot in my garden. I chose it primarily because it was pretty and smells delightful when you rub the leaves with your fingers. But I didn’t realize its many benefits. As a perennial, it came back this year and I decided to see how I could use it.

Consider these benefits:

Lowers triglycerides when used aromatically such as in essential oils
Treats heart palpitations
Treats type 2 diabetes in reducing blood sugar levels. It is not a replacement for insulin.
Natural antibacterial, especially effective against candida yeast infections
Calms anxiety
Treats insomnia
Improves cognitive function and focus
Helps manage ADHD in children
Fights the herpes virus and reduces symptoms in cold sore sufferers
Fights certain cancers
Battles inflammation
Manages overactive thyroid
Soothes constipation
Reduces PMS symptoms

VERY IMPORTANT CAUTIONS:
Do further research and check with your doctor before using lemon balm especially if you take any prescriptions or have health conditions.
Avoid lemon balm if you have a hypothyroid condition because it can negatively affect thyroid medications.
Some people have allergic reactions ranging from anaphylactic responses and rashes. Use caution when you first use it.
Here an easy way to enjoy lemon balm as a tea:
Chop ¼ cup fresh lemon balm leaves.
Boil one cup water.
Add leaves to water and steep for ten minutes.
Strain to remove leaves.
Stir in one teaspoon honey if desired.
Other ways to use fresh lemon balm leaves is to add it to salads. Do you know any other ways to use lemon balm?
