What are your thoughts on cultured meat?
Closed

I am not thinking I want any. I do think however, if some are starving [which they are] and if some have to eat bats and creatures that carry disease [which they are] Maybe this would be a viable solution for many. It does feel creepy to me and reminds me of a movie I saw named Soylent Green. I was in a store the other day and saw what I thought was disturbing...a meal replacement drink called Soylent. I wondered why the manufacturer chose this name for their product. Is the food these days disturbing or scary to you?

EWWWW, no thanks. I do not even like to eat the plant based burgers. I have tried them, and they are not that bad, but I will stick to meat.

I certainly understand the plant based meat alternatives but I think I have a problem with this cultured meat thing. The whole thought of taking cells and turning them into food to consume is frightening. I wonder what the results will be on human bodies 10 years from now? I remember that movie too and it was kind of haunting then and in a way looks like we are heading in that type of direction.

I seen that product Soylent in the store. It reminded me of the film Soylent green too!I agree with you that a meat substitute would be better for people in poor countries than eating bats. That is why illnesses like the corona virus and the Ebola virus are showing up in countries where they might not have any other food source but bats.

Food scary to me? Well, yes, some are, although I once enjoyed them. My Mom twice made my requested type of cake for my birthday, a dobos torte. That cake had seven golden layers, each about a centimeter thick, separated from each other by equal thicknesses of cooked chocolate butter-cream icing, and a dark-chocolate butter-cream icing surrounded the cake and covered its top, about as thick as the other layers of icing. Atop the fourth icing layer was raspberry jam, and atop the top layer of icing was a clear hard-candy icing. Talk about rich! These days, I'm sensitive to sugar (reactive hypoglycemia) and old enough not to eat anything so awfully rich. Rich, sugary things scare me, but cultured meat would not. Still, the taste of fresh venison is unbeatable. And so is brown trout that grew up in a mountain stream, not raised in a hatchery and planted there. From the ocean, a super treat, never fished commercially, is the cabezon, the sky-blue flesh of which turns a beautiful golden color on frying or broiling.
Have I made you hungry?

I loved that movie and Charlton Heston. That is all I think of when I hear Soylent. Cultured meat is more appealing to me than these new overprocessed impossible burgers

Not in favor of cultured meat. Any artificial interference would spoil the purity of the substance
