Is your local pub dying ?

This is the Jubilee Inn, 300 yards from my home . It was built in 1937 , to mark the Jubilee of Queen Victoria , 100 years before . It has been a focal point of the community ever since - until recently . Last time I visited , about a year ago , it was very quiet . Today , as Man United were playing Liverpool , I expected a full house . Unfortunately , they no longer have Sky Sports . Why ? The landlord told me , that a pub with a capacity of 60-70 people was expected to pay £1,200 - per MONTH ! Combine that with the smoking ban , plus cheap supermarket booze , and you'll see that pubs are an endangered species . Is your local suffering the same ?

There are a lot of good locals near us, including a traditional Irish pub that is always busy and lively. Wetherspoons does dominate a bit, because of keeping its prices so low, but in my experience, local pubs in Manchester are still going strong. Reply
