Old technology again !

Another thing I have found while tidying is the whistle in the picture. It is an old police type whistle that was issued to me when I was in Germany. The whistle is dated 1971 so is 48 years old, that will be older than quite a few members on here. The whistle was made in the UK in Birmingham by J. Hudson , and is a Metropolitan model. The company still exists, but has changed its name to Acme whistles, they had used the name Acme on several of their whistles over the years.
The company made whistles for all of the important sporting events over the years including the Olympics, and the world cup. It is not worth a lot the age it is and the condition makes it worth about £45 to £50. They are collectable so i have found out today, but I will hang on to mine, it does remind me of my time in Germany, where it would have been used to warn of a suspected gas attack.

I quite like it when something I find when sorting out, is a good old British design, and that the manufacturer is still going. Do you like coming across good old British designs ?

Nice one Chris, I have a whistle but it's quite new as hubby bought it for me to whistle for our puppy, hubby can do it using just his fingers and mouth but I can't. :) xxx Reply
