Buckfast Tonic Wine - 1 in 10 crimes commited in Scotland by people drinking this wine. Why so long for the obvious link to be established?
Closed

As a teenager in Scotland in the 70s I would say that Scotland made up roughly 75% of the total Buckfast sales because of its cheap price and strength. I also noticed that a lot of crime, particulary assault, was carried out by people drunk (usually paraletic) on this wine.

Buckfast Tonic Wine is made by the Benedictine monks in Buckfastleigh, Devon. They have always known the influence that their 'tonic' wine was having in Scotland yet they did absolutely nothing (perhaps because of the £millions rolling in!). Now, for the first time it has been made public and on the record the amount of crime and suffering associated with this drink. I await with baited breath for any change because of this report but I am not expecting a great deal!

I've never tried this 'wine' before, I don't think I would dare ... it's probably a bit strong for me :-)
There was a news report about buckfast wine on Radio 1 awhile ago, they were interviewing people that were drinking it. It made me and my friends laugh cos it was impossible to understand what the people were saying cos they were sooo drunk. I thought they were trying to ban it!
I didn't know it was made in Devon, I wonder why it's been so popular in Scotland but nowhere else? Do you think the monks drink it themselves - or are they just interested in the profit it brings in, and to hell with the consequences?

Ha ha ha, I'm watching the Wright Stuff as well. Why no link before? 'Cos they were too drunk.
