Is Silicone Bakeware Really Safe?
Closed

Is Silicone Bakeware Really Safe? I was given a silicone oven liner and I don't know if it's really safe to use. I don't know. I have never seen them before, never used them before. Any feedback on that?

Can I just say, as a retired chemist (and you can look this up for yourself, should you want to check), silicone is inert i.e. won't react or cause a reaction, in the human body, and isn't poisonous.

They're brilliant. I used them all the time when I was baking for hubby and myself.

I've wondered that myself! I know that they won't melt, but whether or not the silicone deposits tiny particles in your food as it's baking is something I think about.

We have a couple of silicone "tins" & they are fine. My sister in law used them for years before we got any.
