How can you make picture less than 1MB for your image?

I have tried finding a picture for my image profile but all my pictures are over 2MB and I do not know how to even just get a nice picture form the internet. Please help Iam a bit of a novice with the PC.

SAVE AS.....every time you save a jpeg it reduces quality (that's why you shouldn't use it for decent pics)

You can use any photo editing program to "compress" a picture i.e. make the file smaller. It works by losing a little of the detail, but on a computer screen you will hardly notice the difference.
Look on your PC to see what photo editing programs you have. You might have Photoshop Elements, or you might have another program that came with your digital camera. If you have Microsoft Office then you'll probably have Microsoft Office Picture Manager (that's what I use - not because it's that good, just because I happen to have it). In Picture Manager, you press Edit Pctures on the toolbar at the top and then Compress Pictures on the right hand side. The procedure will be different for different programmes. Let the group know what you have and someone else might be able to advise specifically.
