My husband always said that gaviscon was the best remedy for heart burn but i find a good extra strong mint works wonders for me.

I like fruity Rennies, half a tab at night when I mainly get heartburn.

Generally for mild heartburn which I only suffer from very rarely I eat Rennies, but if necessary see your gp.

I have an acid problem, my stomach makes too much of it. I went to see the doctor and he gave me tablets and which I now will have to take for ever to control the acid. If the problem is really bad then you should go to see your doctor but in the meantime I do find that Gaviscon or Maalox are very good. You should also avoid eating fatty and spicy foods and drink decaf tea and coffee. The specialist I saw gave me this advice.

I dont know if you are aware but there is a condition called Barretts oesophagus which is caused by heartburn/acid reflux. This might be rare but extremely serious as acid in the gullet can cause cancer. Unfortunately i know this as my dear brother has recently been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. Just go see your doctor and he may advise an endescope. This is a worse case scenario. More than likely he will just prescribe some medication and you will soon be feeling better.
