It seems to me soaps are showing more hard hitting storylines. Do we really want our children viewing some of these? They contain violence, sex, crime, lies and even murder. Just because these programs do not contain bad language and the characters always get caught out, is it still right for them to view this. we have story lines like child abuse, heroin addicts, murder plots, cheats and even a aids story. what age do we think these things are ok to view. Not only that programmes like hollyoaks create a image where every one is beautiful, and thin wearing the lastest fashion. Do we want young impressonable people thinking this is the norm? are we crupting there youthful minds with all this? or is it just a reflection on true life that they need to see?

They are on at these times as they are prime viewing times and when the market who watches them (mainly adults) want to see them as they are around or just after dinner time.

I think it comes down to adults being aware of what their kids are watching and monitoring them and controlling their programme selection rather than penalising all adults and moving these programmes to later at night so that we miss out on having some quality other programs that cannot be put on during the timeslots the soaps were in due to their content.

Sorry but I would rather parents take control of what their kids are watching than change around all the program times.

i was shocked to hear someone calling another student a "bitch" in grange hill, I know this is aimed at slighly older kids but it is on cbbc so surely smaller children will watch it too? i cant believe how things have changed from when i was a child, i wouldnt want my little ones learning these words and that it is ok to insult people, what do you think?

I don't think any sort of swearing at all should be in kids tv, but then again I wouldnt' have put Grange Hill as designed for young kids anyway? Isn't it more for young teens? I suppose though being on a kids channel and being that often parents can't keep popping in to see what's on as they would assume that the kids channel would be ok then I think they probably should tone the language down.

I think the best thing would be that they move the time it is on to maybe make it less accessible to the younger kids or maybe it should be moved off the kids channel and onto a standard channel so the parents are aware that it may contain unsuitable language?

I'm torn about this. Eastenders usually address sensitive subjects pretty well but this is such a horrendous subject it is hard to see how it can be portrayed before the watershed. On the other hand, I do think these issues should be discussed openly to raise awareness.
Horrible subject matter but do you think that the BBC are right or wrong to deal with it as part of a drama before the watershed?

I think that it is a good way of raising awarness to such matters.

Eastenders has a large audience, and there will be people watching who are dealing with this awful type of abuse and will gain the strength to do something about it.

They know that they can seek help, as there is a number which is shown at the end of the episodes which focus more on that particular storyline.
