I have gone down to one family car and will probably get a motorbike as a run around. It will hopefully save us some money. Interested in other peoples solutions.
There have been a few opinions mentioning the fact that with the economic crisis people are harder pressed to find money for gifts and so less inclined to buy them. And this caused me to wonder about the affects of all this. I know that in this family (mine) there are cutbacks on presents which in my mind means that they less of a meaning at this time. In a way it has meant that my old views of Christmas have been reaffirmed since I have never liked the fact it is all materialistic and like to think of it more for the family aspect. I am not religious so I don't celebrate the true meaning, only the chance to get closer to family and enjoy a nice meal with them on Christmas Day.
I like to imagine that maybe in the future parents will be more inclined to share with their children a more family oriented view of Christmas that focuses less on the gifts they expect to get and more on the other things they have like, the people close to them. It would be nice if something good could be said to have come from all this!
So I was wondering if the credit crunch/economic crisis is causing you and your family to look beyond the materialistic side and towards the more personal side of Christmas? And if it is not happening at the moment do you think that it could happen later on if things are this bad or worse by the Christmas of 2009?
