On this day, 26th November, in 1922, Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb of Tutankhamun which they had excavated.

What is your opinion of archaeologists opening tombs or excavating the dead. In the USA it is particularly contentious because native tribes oppose it. Here in the UK we are such a mix that no-one can seriously claim to speak for the dead (especially not the so-called modern druids whose religion probably bears very little resemblance to the real ancient druids). I still do feel a little uncomfortable when I see a report of a grave being excavated, though, not because of religious beliefs (I am an atheist) but because we may have violated their expectations of being left to rest in peace. And I do feel uncomfortable with mummies being put on display. That said, modern day archaeologists do arrange for reburial of many of the remains they find, paying attention to the beliefs where these are known.

What is your favourite thing in nature?
I love willow trees beside a river, or walking in the grass on a sunny day.
