I am an immigrant in the UK and I think anyone who commits crime must be punished. However you need to look into the seriousness of the crime and the reason for committing it. You shoudn't have a blanket ruling. Its dangerous and contradicts the human dignity. Don't forget there are hundreds of Brits committing crimes in other countries.
Celebrities seem to be given easier sentences and fines just because of their status. I think they should be punished the same as the rest of the country with no leniency.
Don't you find that some celebrity's who are caught committing a crime get the book thrown at them and are stood up as an example, on the other hand some can get away with almost anything. It appears as if the punishment is more about fitting the face rather than the crime. If a celebrity is a high profile usually sex symbol type then they tend to get lighter sentences if on the other hand someone is getting on a bit and not in the public eye as much these tend to be dragged through the mill. I know it's easier said than done but each and every person should be given exactly the same punishment no matter who or what they are. A lot of punishments seem to be down to the judges own discretion whether they like the person they are trying or not. It's a bit like a shop keeper saying, yuck don't like the look of him I will charge him three pound for a loaf of bread on the other hand if someone else is seen as attractive the shopkeeper may say very nice indeed I think I will charge twenty pence for that same loaf of bread. Each crime should have it's own price tag amounting to the same value for each and every one of us.
MY OWN OPINION IS DEATH SENTANCE IN SOME CASES MAY BE GOOD IDEA, A LIFE SENTANCE SHOULD MEAN WHOLE LIFE,NOT TEN YEARS OR LESS. AND I ALSO THINK THAT IF A LIFER WANTS TO END HIS/HER OWN LIFE THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO, PEOPLE LIKE HUNTLY.AND MOORS MURDERER WANT TO DIE ,SO WHY MAKE THEM LIVE AT TAXPAYERS EXPENSE? TWO RECENT CASES, DIXIE AND WRIGHT SHOULD BE GIVEN LETHAL INJECTION .
i am in favour of the death penalty for lifers as it costs upwards of £900 per WEEK to keep them in our (overcrowded) jails. i also think prisoners have far too many human rights and dvd players but that's another issue. I don't, however, agree so much with bringing back hanging as, if it is done incorrectly, suffering can go on for minutes, and it is unnecessary to torture someone who is abuout to die for their crimes. Also for the family of the prisoner, who do deserve human rights, they should be allowed to view the body as if the deceased were asleep, rather than with unnecessary rope burns or burst blood vessels or pokey out eyes. When done properly - rope length depends on height and weight - the neck should snap instantly. i think the injection would be a better alternative
