As a nurse I am sick of people complaining about the health service. I hate how the media always focuses on the negative from super-bugs to vermin on wards, but never highlights any of the positives. I worry that all this negative press makes people scared to go into hospital for necessary treatment, and their anxiety makes the whole recovery process longer. Yes, there are problems, but I think the same problems would arise in privately owned hospitals too and I think that private health care would only serve to make things worse for those on low income.
I agree with what you say suzzie and magnius is spot on with his comments about the general public helping to spread the various infections that the NHS is so regularly criticised for. Most wards have those hand cleanser dispensers outside the door and those with separate bays within wards have them ouside each bay but, despite the signs, many people only use them on the way out. Visitors regularly use toilets which are clearly marked as 'Staff only'. There are regular, unannounced audits and inspections for infection control but, however careful the staff may be, their efforts can be rendered useless by the public.
I am not a very sporty person but I always enjoy watching the Olympic games, I am disappointed that we missed the opening ceremony as we had to attend a funeral, but I managed to catch a bit of it when it was shown again later, and the firework dispalay was absolutely fabulous. I enjoy watching the track and field events more than anything so I am looking forward to them coming on. I do like to watch the gymnastics though and the simming and diving. I just hope there is no trouble though and everything carries on just as smoothly as it already has done.
I am a quite moderate drinker, usually just having 3 or 4 pints in a session, it is possible to have fun and not be drunk. Very rarely will I drink excessively, I do not see how people can enjoy being blind drunk can be fun, I have been there and it is not good. I know my limits and stop drinking before I am at the point where I will slur my words, throw up or fall over, I don’t see the point of getting to that stage, and the hangover is a bitch!
