this was such a sad film. the use of the girl in the little red coat when the rest of the film was in black and white was really poignant. i think it is very important to remember pieces of history like this and these days the only way of bringing things to the attention of the public is through film. its great to be able to look back and see that while all the horrific events of the second world war were taking place that there were little moments of extreme charity if you like and the film documents this beautifully. especially after all hes when schindler breaks down at the end because he could have saved more jews. this was a fanatstic film that brought the story of shindler to life far better than i felt the book did.
Of all the movies that have ever been based on historical events and people, none have matched the accuracy and quality of the motion picture Gandhi. One could almost mistake the factual history of Gandhi's life as a summary of the movie plot. The portrayal of Gandhi's character was flawless, and was not one hint of the usual dramatics that have ruined the credibility of most historical based films. The storyline in the movie starts off with Gandhi, a young lawyer just out of British law school, on his way to South Africa by train. While on the train, Gandhi is confronted by the conductor, who orders him to move from the first class compartments to the third class storage simply because he is colored. Gandhi resisted -saying he bought the first class ticket,
I think Ben Kingsley is one of those actors that has shown his magnitude in movies like Ghandi but has been unlucky. After such roles that would be enough to shoot today's actors to super stardom, Ben has not made it as much. With such an international role, this of Gandhi, he should have been the lead actor in loads more films than the few he has been in. Schindler's list is also a well noted role even though its a supporting one. I also believe Kingsley has the diversity that is required by independent movie makers and can fit so many different personas. Hope he gets better luck in the years to come! Eleni
