Do we pay too much in council tax? Alex Salmond, the Scottish PM wants to abolish council tax in Scotland. Is he on to a winner? He wants to replace council tax with a 3p in the pound local income tax. So someone who earns £25,000 would pay £750 in council tax. Apparently he would save the average Scottish family between £300 and £350 a year. Do you think what you receive from your local council is worth the tax you pay on your home?

If they abolish council tax where do they expect to find the money - If they abolish council tax where do they expect to find the money for funding local services? All that would happen is that income tax and probably VAT would rise to cover the short fall. If you changed it to a local income tax, you would just penalise the higher earners for having better paid jobs, whereas those on a lower income would pay little or even nothing into the local community. It is an ill thought out idea that is simply unworkable. There is nothing wrong with the current council tax system; all we need is to see the revenue raised from it spent more wisely.

Ein Tempolimit auf Deutschlands Autobahnen wird immer wieder heiss diskutiert. Die Befürworter geben als Hauptgrund ein um ~3 % verringerten CO2 Ausstoß an, was ein großer Gewinn für die Umwelt und den Klimaschutz wäre. Gegner kontern damit, dass große Nationen wie z.B. die USA sich dem Kyoto-Abkommen regelrecht verweigern! Also, entweder ziehen alle gemeinsam an einem Strang, oder keiner! Ich bin der Meinung, dass in Deutschland die meisten Autofahrer aufgrund der gestiegennen Spritpreise und überfüllten Autobahnen eh schon freiwillig langsamer fahren. Ein offizielles Tempolimit wäre daher meiner Meinung nach völliger Quatsch. Emotional gesehen heben wir uns doch durch "kein Tempolimit" vom Rest der Welt ab und ich denke, wir sollten uns dieses letzte Stück Freiheit bewahren, bevor wir gänzlich durch Uniformität untergehen.

Reading last weekend in our local paper about a young girl of 11 being raped by a man of 22 He is apparantly likely to serve about 4 years if convicted of this crime Providing the man is guilty what shoudl he serve in your opinion or should he be shot for example?

cela dépend par exemple à l'assemblée nationale ceux qui dorment et - cela dépend par exemple à l'assemblée nationale ceux qui dorment et les autres qui somnolent oui ,mais je connais des fonctionnaires qui ont tellement de boulot qu'ils ramènent les disquettes chez eux afin de s'avancer dans leur travail car le personnel est restreint notamment dans les collèges et autres administrations et croyez moi ces gens là ne comptent pas leurs heures je sais et j'en suis témoins la nouvelle loi sur les CAE à supprimer nombres de postes dans les collèges et autres soit disant remplacés c'est faux et nous qui étions bien intégrés dans nos postes administratifs et connaissions bien notre travail et bien non c'était trop beau et bien non ces fonctionnaires là ne sont pas trop payer et merci encore à l'état

On incrimine toujours les fonctionnaires quand un problème surgit. Certes, parmi les fonctionnaires il y a des "planqués" mais n'y en a-t-il pas aussi dans le privé ? On pense toujours que le privé est plus efficace que le public: qui n'a jamais eu de problèmes avec une entrprise, un artisan, un fournisseur de services marchands ? Or, lorque vous avez un problème avec votre banque privée, vous ne souhaitez pas le licenciement de votre attaché de clientèle ou du directeur de l'agence qui sont tous les deux payés à partir des bénéfices générés par VOTRE argent! Quant à ceux qui fantasment et qui jalousent les fonctionnaires, il n'y a qu'une chose à faire: passez les concours, ils sont ouverts à tous!

I actually don't think it matters whether he does or not; I think that the current economic crisis means that Labour is very unlikely to win the next general election regardless of who their leader is. Also, who would replace him and would they do a better job anyway? What do you think?

I agree with you - I agree with you. I think the Labour party is a shambles and it wouldn't matter who replaced him. I don't think Labour will win the next election and I don't think they deserve to. I just feel sorry for whichever party has to sort out their mess.
