My local library has a very active childrens department - My local library has a very active childrens department. I take my 2 year old granddaughter once a week for story time, which is always well attended. It`s a lot livelier than the story time of old, with the toddlers being encouraged to interact, no just sitting and listening! The children then naturally gravitate to looking at and choosing books, and that section is very well stocked. It`s all a far cry from the old formal days of `Ssshhh`, and `Silence`, and a lot more user friendly.

really intrested in this one as my daughter is supposed to be starting an all girls school in september, i was taught in a mixed school and had no problems at all. what do you think ?

I'm not really sure, i went to mixed schools so don't know about - I'm not really sure, i went to mixed schools so don't know about single sex schools. I'd imagine though that there wouldn't be that much difference except maybe more work would get done in single? less distractions? :-)

I don’t go to Church now, but when I was about ten years old until fifteen I did go to the local Sunday school, we went for lots of walks afterwards and always went on a coach outing to the seaside in the summer. Did you go to Sunday school?

Yep, I went every Sunday and we too got lots of outings and even the - Yep, I went every Sunday and we too got lots of outings and even the odd summer holiday which was great! so I have fond memories...except that my Mum was the main Sunday school teacher!

hi there, i dont know about the schols but i know what it is like at - hi there, i dont know about the schols but i know what it is like at my work place we always have something going on for different charities and events or some sort of fundraising, people are coming round at least once a week and it is annoying when they keep hassleing you but me being me when i say no thanks and they jingle their blooming bucket at me i say i cant afford it i am working to pay bills not to give it away,you should see thire faces drop lol x

so far our school has cost us a lot of money, i know its for a good - so far our school has cost us a lot of money, i know its for a good cause, she has had so many non uniform special days since sept, sport relief was yesterday for a quid, but she forgot to tell me until we got to school about it, then they organise after school clubs for a few weeks which she has attended two since sept including a spanish and art and craft course costing around 80 quid all told, but she got enjoyment out of them and learned some spanish as well

i do a lot of activities to help my 5 year old with reading writing - i do a lot of activities to help my 5 year old with reading writing and maths.we are plsnning on getting her a DS for xmas - a long way off i know. but i would say the older she gets the more thngs like the DS will help.

Apparently 50% of adults are unable to use these words properly and of those 50% approximately 30% of them don't realise that there is a difference. Sometimes I have to think! Some teachers have used the Friends episode where Rachel and Ross finally break up to explain your and you're!! I have to say, it would have worked on me! Do you use these right or are you not sure of exactly how to use them?

This is something that annoys me almost as much as the misuse of "I" - This is something that annoys me almost as much as the misuse of "I" and the blasted apostrophe. Their are many examples they're of there misuse. Your right about you're misuse of this as well. Joking aside, it's (another one!!!) so easy to think which one you need. Obviously my examples are all wrong, but There means in that place - like here. Their means belonging to them like the heir and they're - they are! I know the English language is not the easiest in the world, but come on, most of these mistakes are just basic. Is it the education system, or are people just plain lazy?

hi please do not for me wrong have no presages on race or sex but why are are children facing a harder job on getting in to university ,the government has had to stop visas from people coming in from india became the numbers have gone up from 1,800 in the last three months of last year to 15,000 plus in that period of time , now is it not time we gave the places to our young ?

I can't pretend that I know the figures for the number of overseas - I can't pretend that I know the figures for the number of overseas students in the country, but when I worked in Cambridge I noticed that most of the fioreign students there were pretty wealthy and therefore paying in full for their courses. Maybe Cambridge, Oxford, Heriot, &c are somewhat different to the more run of the mill universities. Your actual question is interesting though, in a more general sense. I would tend to say "why should our children expect to have higher education?" From my school the percentage of children going to university was very small, and the government's plan that virtually everyone should go to university is unrealistic and ultimately unsustainable. The end result is that there are people getting degrees now who wouldn't have been smart enough to reach university twenty years ago, and it's steadily cheapening the value of a degree.
