XL Airways went bust yesterday with estamated 90,000 people stranded abroad. ABTA and ATOL are trying to sort people out but not everybody is covered with these bonded agencies. XL were taking booking until the minute before they stopped trading should they have been allowed to do this. If you booked direct with them you are not covered under any of the bonded agencies, unless you paid by credit card then no guarantee you will get your money back. However, you can claim your money back if you paid by debit card under a charge back scheme with you bank. I have been concerned lately as this is about the 3 or 4th UK airline to go bust this year because of costs of fuel etc. I have been holiding off booking flight to Paris for my son's birthday in Disneyland as a just in case. Should we all be worried about the future of the travel industry so it goes back to days before without the no frills airlines that have kept the cost of travelling down.
