I can sill remember our house on a Sunday evening with my older Sister sat listening avidly to the top forty on our portable old radio. At the time I found here eagerness to listen every single week to be very odd & still do to some extent. We were a very poor family with no money for modern clothes or spare cash to pay for records so I found her interest to be a bit point less. She may have done it to fit in with the girls in her class but to me it seemed a waste of time every week. Over the years since I have listened to many snatch’s of modern top forty music & think that music has not changed too much as most is still very odd & the language has not improved.

Following the positive feedback (cheers everyone) following my previous challenge topic, I've been painstakingly researching a new one.
THE RULES:
1. Both the original song and its cover version must have been number 1 in the OFFICIAL UK chart (1952 to present). US charts, European charts, unofficial charts and any other charts don't count.
2. The cover is allowed to be a remix of the original, but not allowed to just sample the original (sorry Vanilla Ice) but if you're in doubt please post your idea anyway for me to decide.
3. If you don't have a clue then please just pop in and say 'hi' anyway, and have a look at other people's answers. However, I have already found at least 20 answers that count, so it's a bit easier than last time. Hope this is a bit of fun that makes you think!!! Jenny

I have an opinion that many of the so called legendary artists should have stopped making records a long time ago. Their more recent releases are nothing more than pale imitations of their earlier, "great" albums.

I would site the following 3 as examples

1. Meatloaf - Nothing good since Bat out of Hell
2. Rolling Stones - No great albums since the early 80s
3. Paul McCartney - Nothing outstanding since the mid 70s

What do other Tolunas think? Am I being to harsh? Or are these artists simply trading on their past reputations?

Who would be on your list and when did they stop being interesting?

PS In this poll, I'm not talking about live performances of artists, simply their studio output.
