I saw the first of this series last week. It raised a few smiles but I was rather tired so went off to bed half way through. Last night it really picked up pace and I had to watch it through to the end. What a totally surreal programme; very amusing and well-scripted with some lovely observational humour.

Coming from the producers of Absolutely Fabulous and the writer Jonathan Harvey it is based on the childhood memoirs of Simon Doonan, a gay man who grew up in Reading, but always knew he was destined to be "fabulous" (he now runs a clothing store called Barneys in New York). 13-year old Simon’s character is great and brilliant support comes from his little friend Kyle, who prefers to be known as Kylie; a young black boy with great dancing ability (in real life he is Layton Williams, a West End Billy Elliot) and a similar taste for the fabulous in life, whose own Mum even refers to him as “Batty boy”.
Some of the scenes last night really had me crying with laughter; the Irish, horror-obsessed plumber/winemaker Dad opining on the film Carrie, the mothers of the street calling each other by progressively more ridiculous double-barrelled first names, and the beautifully choreographed musical scene in the street. It had a touch of Green Wing about it I thought. In fact I think our hero’s mum is one of the secretaries from Green Wing. I am looking forward to seeing the remaining four episodes.

If you saw it, did you think it was fabulous, or did you hate it?

Does anyone remeber Northern Exposure, I used to watch it all the time on Channel 4, only thing is was always put on late (about 11pm), not sure why, there were some good characters including the bloke who went on to become the basketball coach in one tree hill, don't remeber his name, also some of the episodes were bit o nthe strange side.

Who watched 'Lost in Austen' which finished this week after 4 episodes, did anyone remember seeing Jamime Rooper in Hex and what did they think of her performance in 'Lost in Austen' I thought she was really good and the programme was well made giving a different slant to 'Pride and preduice' in fact I would like to see a follow on series set a little in the future so we get to see how they both got on.
