how thick does the ice have to be before trucks can drive over a frozen lake safely? this could be dangerous, and lives could be at risk..

Alaska - watch the program ice road truckers which starts this week. Very very interesting program and is about the truckers up in Alaska who take goods and equipment up to the diamond and oil mines and drive across the lakes while they are frozen. They have a very limited period of time (I think its about 90 days) when the ice is sufficiently deep for them to drive on it safely.
