Twenty-five years ago 55 per cent said they felt ‘very proud’ to be British but that figure has dropped to 45 per cent. Researchers said older people had a strong attachment to Britain but that the young were more prone to listen to the appeals of nationalists. Britishness is becoming a label only used on holiday. Are you proud to be British? Or do you feel more English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish? Has devolution eroded a sense of Britishness? Do you think it matters if the younger generation feels less patriotic? Is it just a sign of the times with increased globalisation?
Have you had enough of the UK,the government, immigration, rising prices, etc. If you could and it was financially viable would you leave.Where would you go to and what would be the main reason for holding you back
Only in Britain... can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance. Only in Britain... do supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front. Only in Britain... do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke. Only in Britain... do banks leave both doors open and chain the pens to the counters. Only in Britain... do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive and put our junk and cheap lawn mower in the garage.
I was reading and answering opinions yesterday and can't believe how many people are swearing in response to people's opinions, sometimes i am guilty of the odd bloody which i usually cover up with stars but the amount of F word's on this site lately and not being covered up is awful,is there any need to swear like that at a person's opinion,i know this site is for over 18's as they all are but what if myself or somebody else had their children or teenagers reading this with them, most of the topics are okay for children to read,i saw a the w word as well, even though it had stars on it and somebody was called a pyshco retard as well for saying it was a long weekend, why,it is a long weekend, maybe not for some but for the rest of us it is.Why is this site that used to be really nice getting so full of bad language,i do as i said do the odd small sod or such like but usually with the stars. I would like to people to who are swearing to try and keep the language clean on this as i think it is such a shame about the swearing,we also seem to falling out with each other,me included when i got the moaned at the wrong person but i have apologised for that and i think i have lost a friend over it but there you go you can't have it all,i have apologised, can't we all get along ,it is such a shame that on a small site we are all arguing over such and such,me included so i am not leaving myself out,i am guilty too. Please can we all get on and without swearing
Swear words can sometimes enrich, sometime impoverish the language. When they are used occasionally, they add emphasis and allow some release of pent up feelings. What's depressing is people who appear to know only one adjective which tends to appear before every noun in their conversation. I think, on the whole, the proportion of the population who are actually offended is going down all the time. As Michael Flanders put it: "I'm appalled at the common use of 4-letter swear words. What do we use for special occasions?" By overkill, the shock factor has diminished - the more you repeat a word, the less it means.
