I have always wanted to send my children to a pagan school, but at the moment there's only one that I know of in the UK and it is too far, so:
Do you think a more modern lesson in Religious Education would benefit those who wish to know more about the religion to dispel the 'rumours' and / or know more about the practises as a religion?
Also I remember whan I was back in school and the only information on Witches and witchcraft was in the history lessons on the burning times.
no i dont think it should be explicitly taught as such but surely you cannot teach religion without touching upon other beliefs so as a subject by itself no, but as a part of a rounded religios education class maybe along with every other religion
We are all worshiping in one form or another, it is simply that the form is like our spoken languages of the world.
Some are French, German, Punjabi, Hindu, American, Australian even. But we all recognise the difference in language according to the country we are in, and the multi-culturality of the world is accepted as different people now live in different countries than where they originated.
I believe if religion was looked on with the same eyes of acceptance as language, we could all get along better.
I am Pagan and I have travelled and spoken with many different people of many different cultures and after putting this opinion to the people I meet, it brings a better understanding that we all have something in common - Faith!
No matter how we practise it (As long as it harms none), we are worshipping in one form or another, 'Just in a different Language'.
I don't think that there are enough followers from a world or country view for this to be instituted as a recognised holiday religion. I think it is recognised as a religion by most people who at least know of it if not fully understand what it is exactly. To be honest you don't really hear about it much unless you are in that part of society or when they have major celebrations like the summer soltice etc. I think its a great religion and really natural and I think people could benefit from understanding more about it and what it embraces.
I am a pagan mother of three, my oldest being in school. I have recently found out that some schools are not allowed to give time off to pupils who are Pagan/Wiccan to celebrate the Sabbats. I do not think this is right as other "well known religions" are entitled to time off school if their festivals fall on school time. If one religion is allowed then I think all should be.
I agree that this is discriminating against our religion to not be able to celebrate our festivals during the day so our children are able to participate. I am unable to arrange days out in nature to allow my children to run free and celebrate properly.
