Every time I sit down to watch TV or read a magazine there always seem to be adverts for laser eye surgery. Now I'm not against cosmetic surgery per se and I do have bad eyesight. So the idea of not having to wear glasses or contacts and not having to fork out the large sums to have them is appealling. But, the idea of burning away bits of my eye to improve my vision just seems daft particularly when I asked the optician about it who said that because everyone's eyes change over time it is likely that 10-20 years down the line I would probably need glasses again as my eyes would continue to deteriorate as laser surgery can't stop that.
Are there people who've had laser surgery who disagree or do you agree its a waste of time and money?
I had it done 3 years ago now, and have not worn contact lenses since. I wore contact lenses since I was 18 when I had to start wearing glasses. Its the blue eyed thing, if you have blue eyes they are weak. Anyway, I had my normal check up with my contact lenses as was told by my optician that I was over wearing my contact lenses (I did agree as I never took them out I even slept in them very naughty) and that only another 2 years or so and I would not be able to wear contacts again. I had thought about laser eye surgery before but justifing paying £2000 on myself I was unhappy about this. I spoke to hubby about it and we looked into research etc on it and he said if I wanted it done then just go and have it as I never spend money on myself. Anyway, I was on eBay a couple of weeks later and found an offer with Optimax where they wanted to fill empty appointments as it was just after Christmas and got it for £695 for both eyes saving a fortune to start off with. Anyway, went along had all the normal consultations and they do tell you that as with old age your eyes diteriate, this will not stop that happening so that maybe when I am in my 50's or so I will have to have reading glasses which wont bother me. Afterwards we watched a programme on laser eye surgery and I think if I had seen it first I probably would't have had it done as it is a little skeemish. You can see what they are doing and they pull back the top of your eye which is very peculiar. I would recommend and would have it done again. Try and look on ebay if they have any offers again, I know it is weird to think of buying something like this from there but if you save some money going through the same company then it is worth it.
On the face of it I would not say I was someone who had addictive tendencies. However, if you think of it in terms of addiction to chocolate or tea, then yes I have to have a cup of tea in the morning or I feel grumpy and tired and it takes me a lot longer to get up to speed in the morning. And although I don’t eat chocolate every day, when I do buy a bar I find it really hard not to eat it all in one go. But is this more habit than addiction?
