As a skateboarder myself I am eager to see recent wider media coverage of skateboarding, both in the press and film, but I'm disappointed by the way the sport is looked down upon by many of higher authorities. Police, councils and government are all very anti-skateboarding as is shown by the eagerness for the destruction of the famous skate spot on the southbank of london for commercialisation although the site has been used by skateboarders since the early 70s. Another example of this is the relocation of harrow skate park to a lesser area where a park will be built which is worth millions of pounds less than the current set up so that flats can be built. Councils seem to ignore the significance of certain areas to the skateboarding demographic even though they are always free places of recreation which are enjoyed by many.

I mean why dont they build them? It may keep some teenagers to stay away from drugs/ alcohol and keep them off the streets causing trouble etc. My city has one and it certainly has improved the area :). It keeps the skaters happy during the day and the chavs at night XD. I also don't think they cost that much either and if you live in america ive seen a few police officers beating skaters for skating round the city yet if they had skate parks they wouldnt have that problem.
