we now have our recycling collected from outside our house. i think they should have started this years ago.have we left it too late to do anything about the problems of landfill

Some 40 odd years ago my father was a fuel technologist and was involved with the installation of an incinerating plant at an Oldham council housing complex. The boiler burned a lot of the rubbish that would have gone into land fill sites. The heat generated was fed to the flats to heat the flat and the water. Filters and deodorisers were put into the chimney to prevent air pollution. The idea died a death when the boiler needed replacing some years later. I would have thought that with more modern technology we should now be able to build something along these lines. I know that most of the recycled waste is reused but can only be recycled a limited number of times. Perhaps the boffins and greenies should put their heads together and use rubbish as an alternitive energy source. That way there would be even less need for land fill sites.
